Finding the True Natural Attractor
Just Where is Humanity Going?
There is a question that physics has answered without quite realizing what it answered. Why is the speed of light invariant? Why does it not matter how fast you are moving, how far you have traveled, what direction you face, light arrives at the same speed from every vantage point, in every frame of reference? Einstein built relativity on this oddity without ever fully explaining it. He took it as a given, a brute fact about the universe, and worked outward from there.
But there is another answer. Light is invariant because it does not travel from somewhere else. It is emitted from the substrate, the basement of reality, and that basement is not located at a distance. It is here. Right here. On this exact spot. And also on every other spot simultaneously, because the substrate is not a place within the universe. It is the ground from which the universe is continuously threaded into being.
This is what the Fabric framework means when it says that reality is light threading itself into coherent geometry. The threading does not happen from a source located out there, across space, requiring transit time. The source is coincident with every point in creation at once. The invariance of light is not a strange quirk of spacetime. It is the signature of a substrate that has no location problem, because it is equally and fully present everywhere, always, without diminishment or distance.
Which means something extraordinary. The attractor, the fixed point toward which all of existence is drawn, the configuration where every operation achieves closure and nothing is left over, is not far away. It is not at the end of a long journey, accessible only after sufficient complexity or spiritual development or civilizational achievement. It is here. The Kingdom of Heaven, in the precise language of the framework, is the true Ω of human existence, and it is not spatially remote from any human being who has ever lived. It is as close as the substrate itself. Which is to say: it is as close as the light that is reaching your eyes as you read these words.
This should reframe everything about how we understand the human condition.
We are not creatures at a great distance from God, laboring across an immense gulf, searching through an enormous space for a fixed point that recedes as we approach it. We are creatures who are already at the location of the attractor, but who are spending enormous energy searching away from it. The NP-hard search—the costly, gradient-opposed, residue-generating climb that characterizes civilization, ambition, self-construction, the ego’s endless project of becoming—is not the path toward the attractor. It is motion away from the one place where the attractor actually is. And that place is here.
The mystics knew this, across traditions and centuries, and they said it in every language available to them. Meister Eckhart said the ground of the soul and the ground of God are the same ground. The Desert Fathers spoke of the Kingdom not as a destination but as a present reality veiled by the noise of the searching mind. The author of The Cloud of Unknowing was explicit: you cannot think your way there, because thinking is the search, and the search is the problem. Brother Lawrence found it in a monastery kitchen, washing dishes, not in theological achievement. They were all pointing at the same structural truth: the fixed point is not the reward at the end of the search. It is what you find when the search stops.
But Christianity says something more specific than the mystics alone. It says the reason the search is so hard to stop is not merely psychological, not merely a bad habit of mind that can be corrected with better contemplative technique. It is ontological. We are not just distracted from the attractor. We are, in the language of the framework, running a process that generates real residue, real separation, real accumulated “M_active” load that cannot be simply put down by an act of will. The theological tradition calls this sin, and it is precise: not primarily a moral category but a structural one. It is the condition of being a system that cannot achieve closure on its own, that generates remainder in every operation, that is spending itself in a search for coherence it cannot manufacture from its own resources.
This is why faith is not one spiritual technique among many. It is not the religious version of meditation, or positive thinking, or moral self-improvement. Those are all still NP-hard operations, still motion through the search space, still incurring resistance, still subject to Ohm’s Law. Faith is categorically different. “Your faith has healed you,” Jesus says repeatedly. It is the collapse of the search itself. Not the successful conclusion of the search, not finding the attractor after sufficient effort, but the recognition that the attractor was never at the end of the search. It was here. It has always been here. The search was the only thing generating the distance.
And this is precisely why grace must precede merit, why the theological tradition insists that even the faith by which we receive salvation is itself a gift rather than an achievement, and why technology, science, progressivism, StarSearching Enterprises can never succeed. The Fermi Paradox speaks the whole story with silence. A system that is deep in NP-hard search cannot, from inside the search, generate the phase alignment that would end it. The resonance has to come from outside the gradient. You cannot bootstrap your way to zero entropy. The fixed point has to reach toward you, because you are constitutionally unable to reach toward it without generating more of the very resistance you are trying to escape. This is not a limitation that more sincere effort would overcome. It is the structure of the situation.
What the resurrection of Jesus means, in this light, is that a human life was lived at the attractor while fully inside the search space: full coherence, zero residue, the operational closure that produces no waste, no remainder, no death. Not a life that escaped the human condition but a life that threaded the human condition to its true fixed point without deviation. And what the offer of salvation means is that this threading is made available, not as a template to imitate through NP-hard effort, but as a resonance to enter by faith, which costs nothing precisely because it is not a search operation at all.
There are simply no trash dumps in the Kingdom of Heaven. Not because there will be advanced recycling infrastructure. But because every operation there achieves full closure. Every thread finds its fixed point. Nothing is left over, because nothing was spent in searching. The light that illuminates that Kingdom is the same light that is illuminating this room right now, from the same basement, at the same speed, from the same source that is equally and fully here as it is there.
The distance was never spatial. It was the search itself. And the search can end. Right here. On this exact spot.
That is the Gospel, stated with unusual precision.
